The Cambridgeshire fens

A dreary day in Cambridgeshire and I thought a good time to visit the local fenland. Today the sky was filled grey clouds, which hung low above the skeletal trees which line the fields and provide a welcome relief to the open landscape. Dykes and ditches and their attendant rushes criss-cross the landscape providing even more stark symmetry. A landscape harshly shaped by draining and farming and ruthless removal of timber.
